The Christmas Season
Christmas is a busy time for the band, however we are about to take a short break over the holiday season. We return for our first rehearsal on January 22nd, and take a look at our 2009 Events page for a sneak preview of our events in the new year.
CD recording Completed
Well done to everyone who played at the CD recording last weekend. It was a long and tiring day but we all pulled together and did a wonderful job. The CD is currently being mastered by Warwick Ross, and will be available in the New Year, don't miss out on your copy!
Second Saturday Playouts back in the Mall
October saw our second Saturday playouts return to Parramatta Mall. Along with great crowds, we were able to enjoy the atmosphere of the markets, and our training band also featured in support of the senior band. We look forward to your company from 10am on the second Saturday of each month, in Parramatta Mall. Browse the markets while enjoying musical entertainment from the band!
NSW State Championships
Thankyou to everyone who worked so hard leading up to the State Contest. Our goal for the band this year was to continue to improve on last year's performance & to consolidate our position as a genuine middle to top of B Grade band. This goal was achieved. Our performance of a very difficult Test "The Day in the Life of a Knight" & Own Choice "Trittico" showed that we are now genuinely playing to at least a middle of B Grade standard & we are slowly working our way to the Top of the grade. With only two bands in the section at the States we came second in all items. The winning band showing that they are ready for a move up to A Grade in the not too distant future, meaning that we are well & truly moving towards the top of B Grade.

Parramatta City Band wins Penrith Eisteddfod!
Giving a huge boost to our preparations for the State Championships, the band placed first in the Open B Band section at the Penrith Eisteddfod. Also at the Eisteddfod, the training band placed second in the training band section.

Second Saturdays at Prince Alfred Park
As the band is no longer able to play in Parramatta Mall on Saturdays, we have been seeking a new regular playout venue. The band can now be found from 11am - 1pm on the second Saturday of every month, in Prince Alfred Park, at the corner of Church St and Victoria Rd. The next date is September 13th.

Practice underway for the 2008 NSW State Championships
The band is currently practicing hard for the upcoming NSW State Championships, to be held at the Joan Sutherland Centre, Penrith, on Saturday the 6th of September. We will get a performance rehearsal of some of our pieces at the Penrith Eisteddfod, at the same venue on the 24th of August. The test piece is A Day in the Life of a Knight by Phil Lawrence, and our own choice is Trittico by James Curnow. Our hymn is Nicea (Holy, Holy, Holy), arr. Williams Himes.

Hunter Solo and Ensemble Championships
The members of Parramatta City Band put in a strong performance at the Hunter Solo and Ensemble Championships on Sunday, 4th of August. The band's two ensembles won first and second places, and Musical Director Jonathan Gatt took out the Open Champion of Champions, as well as the Open Tenor Horn category. Denis Williams and Lydia Ross came third in the Open Duet.

Parramatta takes the challenge
Gosford City Brass Band presented the fourth annual Brass Festival Challenge at the Mingara Club on the Central Coast on Sunday, 20 May.
Parramatta-Gosford
Four competing bands took the stage for this years challenge, in order of appearance: Parramatta City Brass Gosford City Brass, Brisbane Water Brass and Cardiff-North Lakes Brass. The adjudicator for the event was Matthew Walmsley, from the Australian Opera and ballet Orchestra, was accompanied by the host band, Gosford City Brass, with the tuba solo Capriccio by Rodney Newton solo following the interval.

A very entertaining program by all the bands was capped with a second year win by Parramatta City Brass, conducted by Jonathan gatt, taking top spot for the second year running.

Hosts Gosford took second place, followed by CNL brass. Can Parramatta make it a trifecta next year?
